🎬 SHOWTIME: Yama’s Fight Mechanics

Now the real fun begins! To start the fight, simply speak to Yama and sign his contract to enter his Domain.

You can take on Yama either solo or with a partner. If you’re still learning the fight, we strongly recommend going with a duo ,it’ll help you master the mechanics faster while getting quicker kills.

Once the battle begins, Yama has some unique combat behavior:

  • If you’re using melee, he’ll chase you around the arena like standard NPCs
  • If you’re attacking from distance (with magic ), he’ll stay in place and alternate between magic and ranged attacks

Yama’s Combat Styles Breakdown:

Yama employs all three combat styles, each with distinct tells:

  1. Melee
    • Triggers when you’re in front of him
    • Hits through prayer (unavoidable damage)
  2. Magic
    • Visual cue: Flames swirl around you before impact
    • Switch to Protect from Magic when you see the fire animation to completely block damage
  3. Ranged
    • Visual cue: Dark shadows gather around you
    • Protect from Ranged nullifies all damage when activated in time

Phase 1:

Glyph System & Special Attacks

  • At the start, Yama spawns three Glyphs of one color (Fire/Red or Shadow/Purple) and two of the other.
    • More Fire Glyphs? → Yama uses Magic attacks followed by a Fire-based special.
    • More Shadow Glyphs? → Yama uses Ranged attacks followed by a Shadow-based special.
  • Special Attack Negation:
    • Before Yama uses his special, stand on a matching Glyph to block damage.
    • Do NOT step on Glyphs early, they extinguish temporarily after use.
    • Failing to block a special can deal up to 60 damage!
  • Combat Style Switching:
    • After a special attack, Yama switches combat styles (Ranged → Magic or vice versa).
    • Exception: If Void Flares are active, he keeps the same style until they’re cleared.

Intermission Phases (66.6% & 33.3% Health Thresholds)

When Yama reaches 66.6% and 33.3% health he enters a special intermission phase:

Transition Mechanics

  1. Yama slams his axe and teleports players away
  2. You and your duo must hop across floating stones to reach “The Judge”
  3. Fireball hazards activate during traversal:
    1. Fire spells launch at 1-2 of 5 fixed spots every 5 ticks
    1. Getting hit deals up to 28 damage
    1. On the final stone, fireballs target your last stood tile

The Judge Encounter

  • Health: 400 (shared between players in duos)
  • Protection Prayers:
    • Starts with Protect from Melee + Ranged
    • Adapts to your last used attack style (switches prayers accordingly)
  • Damage Mechanics:
    • Players always land max hits (regardless of accuracy)
OSRS Yama Hybrid Mechanics

To successfully take care of the Judge of Yama, the easiest way its to hit it with the purging staff at the beginning, then switch to the Emberlight, hit it once and vice-versa until its dead.

Phase 2

The basics remain the same, but:

  • Two Shadow Waves spawn instead of one.
  • More Fire Streaks ignite, making movement tighter.
  • New Special Attacks appear:
    • Meteor Strike: A targeted instant-kill meteor. The other player must stand on a Fire Glyph to negate it, or the target must run away.
    • Shadow Stomp: A heavy prayer-draining hit, block it by standing on a Shadow Glyph.

Yama also starts the phase meleeing aggressively until you attack him, forcing quick reactions.

Intermission 2 (33% HP) – Repeat the Judge

Same as before, but fireballs are trickier. Save food for this part, you’ll need health for the final phase.

Phase 3: The Final Showdown (33% – 0% HP)

When Yama hits 33% HP, the fight changes dramatically. All glyphs disappear, leaving you to face his raw power without their protection.

Attack Pattern Shifts

  • Yama now alternates between Ranged and Magic attacks, starting with the opposite style from Phase 1.
    • Example: If Phase 1 started with Fire (Magic), Phase 3 begins with Ranged.
  • No more Shadow-based specials, but Shadow Waves now come in sets of 2 or 4.
  • Fire-based specials replace glyph mechanics, forcing manual dodging.

If you’re outside melee range, Yama launches a triple fireball assault:

  1. Three fireballs land in a line, exploding in sequence.
    • The side fireballs leave smoke clouds that converge inward (hourglass shape).
    • Getting hit deals 20 damage per explosion.

Void Flares (Now More Dangerous)

  • Spawn with only 71 HP (down from full health).
  • To one-shot them:
    • Use the mage switch (Purging staff, Occult Necklace and tormented bracelet ) + Dark Demonbane spell.
    • Must have Mark of Darkness active + 20% magic damage boost (e.g., Occult, Tormented Bracelet).

In summary

Phase 3 is Yama’s last stand—a chaotic, high-stakes battle where you must juggle multiple threats at once. With no glyphs to protect you, survival comes down to:

✔ Destroying Void Flares instantly
✔ Prayer-switching perfectly as Yama alternates Ranged/Magic.
✔ Staying mobile to avoid overlapping Shadow Waves.

Follow these steps, and you’ll be claiming victory over Yama in no time. Yes, the fight feels overwhelming at first, those mechanics come fast and furious! But stick with it. After a few attempts, you’ll notice the patterns emerging. The attacks that once seemed impossible to dodge will become second nature.

Before you know it, you’ll be farming Yama like a pro.
